The Math Book

~
There once was a young boy that had just started High-school, he was super excited and ready to start the new year.
First day of school and he walked into his math class, took his seat and listened as the teacher began the introduction.
"Welcome class, this year we're going to be covering Geometry and advanced Calculus,"
The boy slightly confused, was wondering what this was. He had heard some of the Seniors talk about that stuff, but he thought there was something before all that. Something called algebra and Algebra 2.
But he sat silent and listened for a bit, but as the class went on he was thoroughly confused.
He just could not wrap his mind around what the teacher was giving them, he didn't understand how anything worked or how to get the answers for the problems!

After the school day the boy went home and opened his math book, but he just couldn't do the homework!! It was too hard! There was too much he didn't understand! So he went back and he started looking stuff up, he realized that before Calculus there was a whole other class he needed so that he could understand it!
He continued to read and study, and as he studied what was supposed to come before he then began to understand what the new stuff was. As time went on the boy continued through the class and received the highest grades, the other students would ask him how he knew what to do and how he understood all the stuff they had been learning.
"It's easy," said the boy, "you have to understand and know what came before in order to understand what the new is."

Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? A High-school teacher doing Advanced Calculus to a group of kids that didn't even have Algebra yet? Yeah right!
And yet, once again we see exactly what is going on and fast becoming a trend in the Christian Culture of today. Christians trying to claim that the Old Testament part of the Bible is no longer relevant and no longer applies to today's day and age in our current culture.

"For Precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, there a little:" Isaiah 28:10 (KJV)

I can't stress enough how false and utterly blasphemous this teaching is!! The Bible was written as one continuous, flowing story of Christ. There is a quote that I came across quite recently that I absolutely love, sadly I do not recall at the moment who it is by, but it says:

"The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed."

For you see you cannot take the one without the other. In Romans it says:
"For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope." Romans 15:4

And again in 2 Timothy it states:
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness," 2 Timothy 3:16

ALL Scripture, not just parts. And look at that other verse, what was written was to give us hope. The Old Testament is an integral and important part of our faith. Without it we wouldn't understand why we needed a savior to begin with.
Look at how many times that the OT is quoted in the NT!! It's incredible! "An index in the Jewish New Testament catalogs 695 separate quotations from the books of the Old Testament in the New (Jewish New Testament Publications, Jerusalem, 1989) http://www.ucg.org/christian-living/old-testament-new-testament/ )

And that's not to mention times when the OT was mentioned but not a specific passage giving or quote from it.

Now, not to confuse, but there are certain laws that were done away with. Certain rules and regulations. a difference between customary laws, and Moral laws should be distinguished. However I do believe that will be a totally separate blog post.

One last quote before I end this.

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." Jesus- Matthew 5:17

Hope that helps you all.

God Bless,
      Ryan
